I remember the way you lied
To protect me
To comfort me
You lied
When I was a kid
When I was young and dumb
When most were still sucking their thumbs
When there was a rat
But no cat.
When I cherished over crisp
cherry turnover
Fresh from the toaster
When we sat on the table,
With our feet hanging down.
With our horrified expressions
When we spotted
red eyes
That was really a lie.
All the blemishes down the toilet
Maybe you should have let it go.
Let our imagination run wild,
And our fantasies become reality.

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteThis poem is really special because of the vivid details you put into the readers mind. It seems like this was a childhood memory or something you remember. I feel like this poem has immense amounts of meaning to you. It was very well told and expressed.
Great job,
Brooke
